Stan has been doing Giclee printing and making Giclee Prints of stunning appearance for artists and others for over 6 years. He is a perfectionist in search of the highest quality art prints. The premise of his Giclee printing business is: "HIGH QUALITY GICLEE ART PRINTS FOR ARTISTS, BY AN ARTIST" THE NEW PHOTOGRAPHY Photography today is not at all what it was when I started some 50 years ago, but at the same time it is still the same. Sound contridictory? Let me explain. On one hand photography is dramatically different today as it has and continues to undergo rather profound changes as regards the technology of the medium. When I started in the 1950's photography was film based and color imagery was a novelty. Most images, mine included, were in black and white. Many brands and mixtures of chemicals were used in the processing of films and prints. Much of the art was involved in finding the right choices of developers, films and papers and using these to effectively create stunning black and white photographs in the darkroom. Then in the later 1960's the technology of photography started changing with the introduction of better color processing and chemicals. With this a new generation of photographers started exploring statements in color wherein as Joel Meyerwitz stated there could be a greater expression of ranges of emotions than in black and white. Suddenly color moved to the forefront of avant-guard photography. Then in the 1990's another transformation was launched as technology brought digital imagery to photography. With the introduction of Photoshop suddenly the wet darkroom became unecessary and post production of digital images became the new frontier. Flash forward to today where the DSLR camera is supreme and software to post process high quality images has swept the photography world. But on the other hand much of what goes on in photography is still the same, only the technology has changed. Photographers still look through their cameras and compose in much the same way as was done 50 years ago. The same issues are being delt with, finding the right exposure for the situation, the right papers to make prints on highly sophisticated digital printers. Moreover the desire to look at photographs, to find meanings in the still images continues although the meanings we read into them is in constant and ever expanding change. So yes, much has changed in 50 years but much remains the same. The photograph is a still image and we continue to be fascinated by still images perhaps because they seem to function as mirrors for who we are as human beings in this world of constant change and expansion. BUYING ART ONLINE ... More and more artists are creating internet web sites displaying their works and offering them for sale. And more and more people are finding these and considering on line purchases of art. However many people are still hesitant because on one hand they are not yet comfortable with making purchases on line, fearing the worst can happen. But so many web sites these days are beautifully and professionally designed to make the purchase experience delightful. One the other hand buyers are reluctant to buy art online as they hesitate to buy works they cannot see first hand or without actually meeting the artist. But the fact is that almost all artists are trustworthy and most will accept return of a work and refund of payment if the buyer is not satisfied, whether in person or on line. So I would urge purchasers to consider buying on line. Not only is it a safe way to purchase art it can offer a purchaser larger access to some great artworks this way, and perhaps offer better prices without gallery markup. How to choose Artwork So you have decided to purchase some art for your home. The next step, choosing the art, can be both challenging and fun. One way to start is to look around your nearby local neighborhood and see if there are art galleries or museums you can visit. Do certain artists who you see on exhibit capture your imagination? Does their work excite you? Another place to visit are local art fairs. Often good artists display and sell their works there. Sometimes talented younger artists display their works in local venues such as small local galleries, coffee bars, restaurants, libraries, bank lobbies, etc. Look in these places for some exciting works by interesting and creative artists. What might you expect to pay? Artwork like anything else varies in prices, and sometimes very dramatically. In large cities like New York, San Francisco, Chicago, etc., you can expect to pay higher price because the galleries there usually show works of more well established artists and just because it costs more to run a gallery there. Prices in smaller cities are often less because the artists who show there may be less well known and the operating costs are less. But don't be fooled. Many times some of the most interesting and creative works are found outside big cities and can be purchased much more reasonably. Member of:

Why Purchase Art? There are many reasons for having art in your home. First. art brings an energy into your home. It adds a richness to your environment and provides visual food for your eyes. It expands and stimulates your visual senses. Moreover it can delight others who visit such as your friends and relatives. Finally and perhaps most important it brings you pleasure. It just simply makes you feel good when see it. So Where Do You Buy Art? Usually when one thinks about buying art one assumes that the place to go is an art gallery, probably in your local area. The advantage of this is that a trained professional can show you a broad variety of works by many artists whom they have carefully screened and who they have decided are of high quality. The downside is that a gallery will probably charge you more for the art because they not only are collecting for the artist but are also charging for the cost of representing the artist and for running the physical gallery space itself. The most direct route for a purchaser of course is to approach the artist directly by making a visit to their studio. The advantage here is that you might be able to pay a bit less for the work of your choice because the artist is not paying a gallery commission that is anywhere from 30%-60%. But the downside here is that you cannot see the variety of work that is to be found in the commercial gallery, so your choices may be more limited.
